Our Koa Bear is 4 years old! As she has told the greater Amarillo area over the last several months about “being Alice”, “I fall down the hole and hit my head”, and “I chase the rabbit and find Hahh-terr”… we decided we would pour equal enthusiasm into her party. Friends indulged in locally baked, custom sugar cookies by our talented neighbor and sipped on their “Dizzy Daffodils”- the gilded event drink for adults only that was indeed heavy on the “DIZZY”.

My talented husband served “Smoke the Monster Out” BBQ pulled pork and chopped brisket sandwiches topped with home made “Cabbages and Kings” Coleslaw. We bounced, we laughed, we snacked on tea biscuits that I had multiple compliments on but shhhhhhhh, they were from Sams Club. Best of all, our friends dressed to the occasion and shocked us all with their costume talents and brought the entire event to life. Hand-sculpted paper flowers towered over our guests that marveled at the size. My fingers still bandaged from hot glue as I tried to imagine where I am storing these flower giants post-party. And just like that, the rain rolled in and JK Inflatables rushed in to pack up the bounce castle to the dismay of the maddened yet absolutely adorable Queen of Hearts. This event certainly brought together a few of our favorite people but also introduced us to some amazing local vendors. Our compliments to JK Inflatables and their staff and our neighbor that blew us away with her cookie talents. Thought one bite of that cookie and we watched our daughter grow and grow and grow into a beautiful four year old right before our eyes. Follow us down the rabbit hole.

“You can learn a lot of things from the flowers
For especially in the month of June” -Alice in Wonderland

I had so much fun sculpting these paper flowers. For years, I’ve wanted to try building enormous plants and I have to admit… they haven’t moved since the event. My husband runs into the breadseed poppy rattle several times a day but here they are until they find a place in the studio. The foundation flowers begin at about 4ft+ in height and the largest between 7-8ft. The play on size through out the party was so much fun. Tiny tea sets, “eat me”/ “drink me” displays, towering botanicals and fresh, colorful stems had me singing “Golden Afternoon” in my head all day.

THE “DIZZY DAFFODOL” SERVED FOR THE ADULTS AS KIDDOS SIPPED ON “GOLDEN AFTERNOON” LEMONADE

After this party, I am confident that Amarillo will be on the map for Women’s Hockey in the near future.

While I had a vision of elegant yard games while sipping lemonade in the sun, our ladies showed us all that you can indeed slapshot a weighted ball with an Amazon-ordered croquet mallet.
